STATEMENTS OF FAITH
THE ABOLITIONIST SOCIETY OF SAN DIEGO
ADHERES TO THE FOLLOWING STATEMENTS
We believe in the one and only God who is triune (Isaiah 43:10; 44:6, 8; John 17:3). Within the one Being that is God, there exists eternally three co-equal and co-eternal Persons – namely the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (2 Cor. 13:14; 1 Pet. 1:2).
We believe every human being, with the exception of the God-Man Jesus Christ (1 Pet. 2:22), is born with a sinful nature, which is inherited from humankind’s federal head, Adam, the first human created by God (Rom. 5:12-15). Man is not God. Man is sinful by nature and a child of wrath (Rom. 3:23; Eph. 2:3).
We believe sin has separated every human being from God, for all sin is a direct offense against God (Isaiah 59:2). No act on the part of the individual (i.e. good works or religious practices) will reconcile any individual to God (Isaiah 64:6; Eph. 2:8-9).
We believe that apart from the direct intervention of God, if man dies in his sinful state, he will be judged by God (2 Pet. 3:7), found guilty of breaking His Law, and will receive as the just punishment for his sins against God—the sentence of eternity in Hell (Matt. 25:41; Rev. 19:20; 20:15).
We believe Hell is an actual place of eternal torment. Hell is not merely eternal separation from God. It is eternal separation from God in a literal place of perfect and wrath-filled punishment (Matt. 3:12; 8:12; Rev 20:10).
We believe that God, according to His sovereign will and divine plan, has provided only one way for sinners to be reconciled to God (John 14:6; Matt. 11:27; Luke 10:22).
We believe God the Father sent His Son to earth, in the Person of Jesus Christ—fully God (Col. 2:9; John 20:28) and fully Man (Phil. 2:5-8; 1 Tim. 2:5), yet without sin (1 Pet. 2:22).
We believe God, through the power of the Holy Spirit, caused His chosen servant, a virgin named Mary, to miraculously conceive and give birth to Jesus, the Son of God (Luke 1:26-38).
We believe Jesus, the sinless Lamb of God, lived a perfect life in thought, word, and deed—perfectly keeping the law and will of God the Father (1 Pet. 2:22; Heb. 4:15).
We believe Jesus voluntarily sacrificed His life as a ransom for many, by shedding His innocent blood and dying a literal, physical death on the cross (1 Pet. 2:24; 1 John 2:2).
We believe Jesus physically rose from the grave and bodily ascended into Heaven (John 2:19-21).
We believe Jesus will return at a time of God the Father’s choosing (Acts 1:11).
We believe the only people who are truly Christian are those who have repented (an, albeit imperfect, change of mind, change of direction, change of behavior, and change of desire) of their sin and, by faith alone, have believed the gospel of Jesus Christ have received Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. We believe that unless a person is born-again they cannot and will not receive forgiveness of their sin and the free gift of eternal life (John 3:3).
We believe salvation is by the grace of God alone, through faith alone, in Jesus Christ alone (Eph. 2:8-9).
We believe the Bible (66 books, from Genesis to Revelation) is the infallible, inerrant, God-breathed, Word of God and is authoritative, sufficient, and profitable in all matters pertaining to faith and life (2 Tim. 3:16).
